Arsenal Fan’s Plea Ahead Of Deadline Day
It was three years ago when Arsenal finally broke the bank for a world class player. The environment at the Emirates stadium on announcement was nothing short of a new king taking the throne. That man was Mesut Ozil, who arrived at the Emirates for a club record transfer fee. Arsenal has since made valuable additions to the squad each year with the arrival of Sanchez, Cech and Xhaka respectively. However, the club is yet to have that one big signing who could change everything for the club.
With two weeks still to go in the transfer window, can the Nutty Professor pull another rabbit out of his hat and give the Arsenal fans a new king at the Emirates stadium? Or will this season too end up like every other where the Arsenal defence continues to get exploited by the opposition strikers and the club suffer from lack of converting goal-scoring opportunities. That is something only time will tell.
Missing out on Jamie Vardy earlier in the window and now delays in the signing of Shkodran Mustafi is simply getting on the nerves of the Arsenal faithful. And why wouldn’t it. The first game of the season witnessed the lack of experience at the heart of Arsenal defence being exploited by Klopp’s men at the Emirates.
Constant loop of suffering
The suffering of Arsenal fans is on a constant loop. The FA Cup victories did help a little but the patience is now running out more than ever. After all, Arsene Wenger’s contract with Arsenal is coming towards an end (unless he extends it, once again). The suffering has united the Gooners in their age old cry of spending money and seeking the resignation of the manager Arsene Wenger, which is not going to help the cause either. Arsenal need a big signing once again for the fans and more importantly the Premier League trophy or at least a better result in the Champions League.
Whilst the appetite for change appears to be growing among the fans, it seems the board will be satisfied by another top four finish. Winning the Premier League does not seem particularly high on their agenda. But it must be high on Arsene Wenger’s priorities. After all, it’s been 12 seasons now, and would in all aspects want to avoid the unlucky 13.
Best isn’t good enough
At the end of each season, Gooners hear about the intent to win, intent to make new signings, and, the team’s competitiveness at the highest level. But there’s always hidden conditions to it. The fight comes real close to winning the trophy but that’s as close as it gets. The player’s are approached but the signings don’t go through and the club always ends up unlucky at the Champions League.
So, what can a gooner do, he has high aspirations from the club. He identifies himself as part of the club and is sickened when the team does not win. A Gooner hopes for new signings but understands the importance of filling in the right positions. He is there to cheer for the club every weekend in spite of how much he’s made to suffer by the club. He endures the pain each day of the week because he is crazy enough to do so. After all, his emotions for the club come ahead of anything else.
The players, the manager and the whole club are certainly trying their best. But the fans have reached a stage where the best isn’t good enough anymore.
Pain of the transfer saga
Every time there is a transfer news related to the club, Gooners are glued to twitter. And every time he feels it is moments away from the announcement, hoping “surely it must be done by now” but eventually the thought turns out to be “what could possibly have been the problem”. The smiles turn into screwfaces and it becomes evidently clear that another player has been missed by the club.
Such has been the case with Jamie Vardy this season. Other top names in recent past include Gonzalo Higuain, Luis Suarez, Juanfran and so on. As Arsene Wenger is almost at the end of his tenure at the club, he must exploit every available resource for the fans.
Tense Home Environment
The Emirates Stadium has not been an easy place to play football in recent times. The atmosphere is so tense that it can verge upon toxic. If Arsenal are to have any chance of a successful 2016-17 campaign, the fans will need to be united in support of both the team and the manager, just like the old times. And to have the fans blindly trusting in the club once again, there needs to be some display of willingness to change.
Every Arsenal fan would love to believe it could be a glorious farewell to the greatest manager the club has had with a triumphant finale.
Dear Mr. Arsene Wenger, your job over the next two weeks is to give the Gooners across the world a reason to believe once again.
Over to you, Sir.
