Emotional Exit for Novak Djokovic in Rio
It’s hard not to feel sorry for Novak Djokovic, who over the last decade established himself as one of the world’s best tennis players. He could break all records, even overtake the likes of Roger Federer with age still on his side and no other player rising up to the task.
It was just a while back when the Serbian was living the time of his life. His victory at the French Open made him one of the eight people to complete the career slam. And most hoped for him to achieve a career slam in a calendar year, but that was not to be. His fans were hopeful of a strong comeback and he did so winning his 30th ATP Masters title. He was favourite in Rio to win the gold medal but an ambitious Juan Martin Del Potro stood in between.
Most would have expected a nail biter of a match and after much hardship a win for Novak Djokovic. Recovering from a string of injuries most people would have thought it might even be a comfortable victory for the Serbian. But the story did not really turn out that way. Del Potro not only made Djokovic work extremely hard for his points but even displayed his might on the court. When the Argentine took the first set to the tie break, people took note but when he beat Djokovic in the first set, people were shocked.
The world no. 1 managed to fend off heavy pressure during both the sets but he could not stop the Argentine from claiming the tie-breakers 7-6, 7-6 to advance in the tournament.
Novak Djokovic breaks down in tears
After the match, Novak Djokovic was in tears. And why wouldn’t he be. He seemed heart-broken as his glorious trophy cabinet could not see the yellow metal from the Olympics this time either. It was also the first time he bowed out of a tournament in the first round since 2009.
Djokovic said, “No doubt it’s one of the toughest losses in my life, in my career. It’s not easy to handle, especially now just after the match, the wounds are still fresh but you know you have to deal with it. It’s not the first or the last time I’m losing a tennis match but Olympic Games yeah it’s different.”
At the end of it all, both men embraced each other at the net. It is a visual of true-sportsmanship, as one had tears of joy and the other, agony.
Djokovic can still win the Gold at Rio
He may have been eliminated from the singles, but Serbia and Djokovic are still in contention for the gold medal in the men’s doubles event. Djokovic is paired with Zimonjic in the doubles event. They comfortably overcame Croatia’s Cilic and Draganja in the first round. The Serbians will next take on Brazilian duo of Melo and Soares.

I’ve been browsing online more than 2 hours today, yet I never found any interesting article like yours.
It’s pretty worth enough for me. Personally, if all webmasters
and bloggers made good content as you did, the internet will be a lot more
useful than ever before. http://yahoo.org
