Indians To Watch Out For: Inderjeet Singh
Inderjeet Singh is India’s lone fighter in the athletics event for Shot Put. This will be his Olympics debut and he has already proven his abilities across the turf. The shot-putter has been on a path of improvement ever since the 2013 Universiade, winning the silver medal. He also scored his personal, erstwhile, best at 19.70 metres.
Since then he has gone on to improve year on year and the medals soon followed to add to the trophy cabinet.
Qualification
Inderjeet Singh has come a long way since then breaking and making new records as he competes. Inderjeet’s personal best is now a massive 20.65 metres, which he scored at the 19th Federation Cup last year to book his Olympic ticket.
Earning the spotlight
Inderjeet Singh stands a whopping six feet and five inches tall; he is well built and combined with massive strength which his makes him a perfect ingredient for success in the sport. So far he has made good on all his chances ever since emerging in the international scene at the Sydney Universiade in 2013. His performances won a silver medal for the country.
However, his performance in 2013 was filled with a massive struggle as his kit did not arrive in time for the competition and he was forced to borrow shoes for the final round which were a size small. He displayed the right attitude and overcame the obstacles despite the situation.
He went on to also win the bronze medal at the Asian Games in 2014, putting him on the spotlight among Indian athletes. Behind this overnight success is a massive amount of hardship, which he underwent during his training.
Route to Rio
Inderjeet Singh has been on a massive run of form in almost all the events he has participated in. He went on to make championship record throws in both the Asian Championships in Wuhan and the Asian Grand Prix in Bangkok. He threw 20.41m and 19.85m respectively in the Championships to win the gold medal.
Inderjeet Singh secured another gold medal at the Universiade 2015 when he threw 20.27m. However, the gold rush from the shot-putter was brought to a stop at the World Championships in Beijing. Although, Inderjeet threw a decent 19.52m he failed to even make it to the top 10 in the competition.
Medal Quest
Inderjeet has always boasted a never say die attitude and he seemingly enjoys good challenges. Inderjeet’s best performance is still what he scored for his Olympic qualification. This shows he is a man for the big game.
