Virat Kohli’s Third Test Series Win Designed By Bowlers
First Sri Lanka, then South Africa and now West Indies, Virat Kohli has won his third test series as captain. The victory at St Lucia has given India an unassailable lead in the series and ensures a series victory.
The match kept changing towards the end of each day. The opening days saw West Indies enjoy the upper hand, till Wriddhiman Saha and Ravichandran Ashwin joined in for a crucial partnership to bail India out of trouble. Young bowlers in Alzarri Joseph and Miguel Cummins made their mark as they troubled the Indian top order. They bowled in good channels and created problems for the Indian top order.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar returns to a five wicket haul
The third day was washed out, leaving the last two days of play for a result. This is when the game really turned for India as Bhuvneshwar Kumar took centre-stage on fourth day. Using the conditions to the fullest on day 3, Bhuvi made good use of the swing to send the West Indies batsmen to the pavilion. He took 5 for 33 in the first innings as West Indies crumbled haplessly from 202 for 4 to 225 all out.
It was an exquisite display of swing bowling from a man who was playing his first test after a gap. But that did not stop the Sunrisers Hyderabad man from making it count. He set up every batsmen on the way to their dismissal. And none of them had a clue about what trickery he was doing with the ball. While Bhuvi was class apart in the first innings, the second West Indies innings succumbed to a combination of attacks from the Indian bowlers.
With West Indies already trailing, India went on the kill as spinners and pacers alike chipped in with wickets. Chasing 346 for victory, West Indies were bundled out for 108 inside 50 overs. Their batting failed to put up any resistance unlike in the second test at Jamaica. The hero from Jamaica Roston Chase scored just 10 in the second inning. He was one of the three batsmen including Darren Bravo and Marlon Samuels even manage to get to double figures.
Virat Kohli sets new record with win
The game which was set up by Saha and Ashwin after the early Indian batting collapse was given a perfect finish by the Indian bowlers. Skipper Kohli will be more than happy from the performance of his boys both individually and as a team.
Virat Kohli accomplished a new record becaming the first Indian captain to win two test matches in West Indies. He elated former Indian skippers like Ajit Wadekar, Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid and MS Dhoni to the feat.
