Manchester United broke the bank when they signed Paul Pogba for 89 million Pounds. Apart from the lofty figure for someone who is barely 23 years of age, the reaction of United manager Jose Mourinho was something else entirely. While the likes of Antonio Conte and others have complained about the lofty transfer amounts for players, Mourinho seems quite happy to pay the piper and land his fish. Ed Woodward broke the bank, a few Juventus hearts, and the record fee when Pogba arrived for the second time in Manchester. ‘#Pogback’ was doing the rounds following the successful medical. However, at this juncture, the real question pops up. How will Pogba fit into his new Manchester United? The Manchester United of Jose Mourinho.

When Pogba left in 2012 for greener pastures, something he eventually found in Juventus. He also mentioned that he would ‘never return’ to Manchester United. Yet, now here he is signing autographs for young lads on the streets of Manchester, signing all sorts of memorabilia. Mind you, it could be worth a ton of money soon. Having signed Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Eric Bailly, and Zlatan Ibrahimovic, it is clear that Mourinho has adopted a strategy that will serve United for at least a few years. 

Although no one really wants to take a glimpse into Mourinho’s mind. Especially with the tactical battles as well as the mind games ready, questions do arise on how the former Chelsea boss will line up his side. Moreover, after the events of the Charity shield, a few things seem clear through the peephole in the few months that the 53-year old Portuguese international has been in charge of the club. 

The first takeaway was the performance of Ivorian international Eric Bailly. The 22-year old partnered with Daley Blind in the absence of Chris Smalling. While there are many positives to gain from what occurred in the recently concluded shield match against Leicester. But, what justifies the selection of Pogba is the mistake by Marouane Fellaini. A bad pass and Jamie Vardy wrote his name all over the goal.

Marouane Fellaini to make way for Paul Pogba?

Come the 14th of August, it surely will not be Fellaini who makes his way onto the pitch. It will be Paul Pogba with each and every last penny of his deal to take center stage at Old Trafford against Bournemouth. 

That said, assuming that the Frenchman will slot in a ‘Steven Gerrard’ role of sorts. Here is how Manchester United could lineup against Bournemouth for their first Premier League game of the Jose Mourinho era. 

Paul Pogba will be expected to perform as a defensive midfielder alongwith Michael Carrick during his time at Old Trafford.
